The mission of the Big Red Bookshelf is to give children access to free, age-appropriate books that will encourage a love for reading and learning.
Big Red Bookshelf is a community resource that was provided by United Way of Greater Duluth from 2008-2015, and then by Duluth Children’s Museum from 2015-2018. LPCFC adopted the program in July 2018. The Big Red Bookshelf program places bright bookshelves stocked with gently used or new books appropriate for children from Birth – 3rd-grade reading levels in the community where families with young children visit. Children are invited to take a book, love a book, and read a book!
We continually collect donations of new and gently used books for this program. We cannot accept books printed before 1980, magazines, coloring books, or religious books. Books can be dropped off at LPCFC or at the donation sites listed below, indicated with “**” next to them. If you plan on dropping off books at the LPCFC site, please call in advance at 218-464-0588 or email jodi.lpcfc@gmail.com.
